Karen Pike is pleased to share a new series of paintings with admirers of her art. She is using a fresh pallet with lustrous earth tones .The new paintings while reminiscent of her earlier works are every bit as charming as the more recent and fun loving TROPICAL TASTE OF LIFE Series. While collectors never seemed to tire of her infinite take on island life, Karen was ready to expand her horizons. In any case, she is ambitious, and her new work reveals a sophisticated awareness of the forces at play in the contemporary art world. In these new works, Ms. Pike is her most accomplished, exuberant and bright.

It is apparent to the viewer that each new piece is executed with an attitude of nonchalance, and with an obvious joy taken in paint and painting. She recently described her approach: I feel that my paintings are very specifically influenced by Mondrian�s use of segments and color. They stretch beyond their borders so that each painting seems a fragment of a larger cosmos. The work acquires a second, illusory, scale by which the distances between points on the canvas seem measurable in miles.

Karen is part of a group of Los Angeles artists that are evolving before our very eyes. Her oeuvre is an impression of styles informed by current and past experiences.  This diverse body of work caused a sensation when it was first shown to collectors in her native Los Angeles, and should rightfully cement Ms. Pike as an artist to watch.
