Artist's Information
Born
in Mexico City Monica Araoz grew up enriched by one
of the world's largest cities and its cosmopolitan influence. There,
she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems and an MBA. In
1997, Araoz and her husband moved to a small town in Northeast
Tennessee, both accepting information systems positions there. After
working full-time at her profession since 1991, Araoz began longing
for a deeper, more creative expression of thoughts and ideas.
She enrolled
in drawing and painting classes, marking the beginning of an exciting new
journey. During the next 4 years Araoz experimented with several mediums and
themes. In 2002 Araoz began painting contemporary abstract pieces under the
influence of the Austin art scene. For the first time she was showing in
galleries and the work was being widely accepted. Since then, Araoz has shown
in New york and Austin, and is currently branching our into new art communities
like Denison, Texas. Her work is widely collected in USA, Mexico, and
Venezuela.
Monica
considers herself a self-taught artist with a fascination in the never-ending
learning process of artistic expression. Her primary artistic objective is to
emphasize the greatness of simplicity. In her own words: “I found most of my
motives in the basic forms of Mother Earth – a rock formation, a rain drop
sliding on a crystal or the mere colors of the sky at dusk can inspire me. I
like to make obvious the beauty of the simple things, through a game of
confronting fortuitous events with controlled and planned interventions. Both
color and texture play a crucial role in doing this.”
Her unique use of texture leaves a visual linkage to Mother Earth in
each piece - and is one of the trademark signs of her work.
