Artist's Information
Jerry Tate is an emerging sculptor working in metals and found
materials. Tate started sculpting in late 2006 and has since completed four
life-size sculptures and a number of pedestal-sized works. His work has recently
received awards at the Durant Magnolia Festival Fine Art Show and is held in
private collections across Texomaland. Tate currently resides in Durant, Ok and
is represented at Denison’s Artplace Gallery.
Jerry’s current body of work explores a variety of construction
methods and materials. His primary medium is steel and other found metals, but
he also incorporates unique finds such as gauges, plastic fittings, and wires
into his sculptures. He uses both stick and wire welders to construct his works
then completes them using paint, metal-transfer, wax, and burnt oil finishes.
Tate is a self-taught artist with a creative and unique talent.
His current body of work explores the human form in motion with a range of
dancing figures. His previous works have explored the human body and forms from
nature. His works are both captivating and whimsical as he repurposes items that
have lost their everyday functionality into beautiful works of art.
